North Carolina’s AIMEE ARGOTE, the brains behind DES ARK, is often referred to as a musical Jekyll and Hyde of sorts. Their music ping-pongs between aggressive noise-rock and lighthearted folk. On stage, ARGOTE and her ever-revolving band (the same rotating cast of characters) embrace each sound adventure as if it is the place they are meant to be. On their first album, 2011’s Don’t Rock the Boat, Sink the Fucker, ARGOTE experimented with this heavy variance in genre. On 2015’s Everything Dies, she tones down the difference, but it is still very much a part of the band’s identity. Whether performing a heavy punk track that gives the crowd whiplash, or a tender eye-welling indie-rock tune, ARGOTE’s superb songwriting abilities helps DES ARK totally sell it. We’re pumped as hell to welcome DES ARK to the Empty Bottle and you should be, too. OPTIONS is composed of Chicago multi-instrumentalist SETH ENGEL, who’s played in some pretty well-known local bands, like COASTER and LIFTED BELLS. For his solo project, which he’s been working on since 2008, ENGEL uses complicated musicianship to deliver sharp, catchy rock songs with an emo-pop kick. Opening this evening is WEDDING DRESS, whose members are no strangers to the Bottle. The band, which formed in early 2012, features members of MAPS & ATLASES, SUNS and JOAN OF ARC. These seasoned musicians combine their powers to create meaty and substantial rock that’s filled to the brim with soul.
