EX HEX is the rock trio lead by ex-HELIUM/WILD FLAG singer/guitarist/badass MARY TIMONY. Taking its name from a solo album TIMONY released back in 2005, the trio is set released their highly anticipated full-length debut, Rips, last October via Merge Records. EX HEX's initial offering, "Hot and Cold," was described by SPIN as "a guitar-blazing come-on with fuzzed-out power-pop DNA" and they blew us outta the fuckin' water with SPEEDY ORTIZ last October. Needles to say, we can't wait to once again witness EX HEX's raw power live. We've been keeping tabs on Cincinnati trash pop duo TWEENS for a while now and we're damn excited to bring the self-described "nasty doo-wop band" back to our stage tonight for the first time since their a packed show with NE-HI back in April. Formed in 2011 as a trio, TWEENS played a bunch of local shows and released a cassette of cover songs, Live @ Mohawk, before they landed a spot on THE BREEDERS' Last Splash Tour, as well as dates with BLACK LIPS. Their debut, self titled LP, released last April on Frenchkiss, is melodic, driven and exceedingly catchy, overflowing with songs that are ferociously honest and unrelentingly fun. Kicking off tonight's shit-show is THE SUEVES, a band that's been blowing up all over Chicago the past few years and show know signs of slowing down. With two releases out on local labels, Town Zone (Eye Vybe) and High School Ski Queen (Maximum Pelt), THE SUEVES are an explosive package of sweaty garage-blues-punk not unlike the BLACK LIPS or OBLIVIANS. There's no reason to ever miss THE SUEVES and we definitely recommend you pick up their new "Liquid Hands" / "Bricks 'N' Bones" 7-inch, available at the show, courtesy of the fine folks at HoZac Records.
