Australia’s TWERPS will be returning to the Empty Bottle on their Spring 2015 Tour, gracing our stage for the first time since October 2012. They’ve toured nationally with REAL ESTATE and WHITE FENCE, recently toured Australia co-headlining with MAC DEMARCO and have received tons of positive press from the likes of The New York TimesNMEAustin Chronicle and Pitchfork over the past few years. Stereogum describes their sound as “Mellow, reverb-heavy guitar jams accented by warm, laid-back hooks” while Pitchfork hailed, “Exellent melodies, simple guitar lines, and simple lyrics that imply something urgent or devastating." One of the original Manic Static bands, COFFIN SHIPS hit the Bottle with their short and eloquent songs that are torn little snippets of psychedelic pop bliss. The two-piece is returning to our stage tonight for the first time in almost a year and a half, so naturally we're chomping at the bits to hear what in the dang heck they've been working on. Reverb-heavy sludgey punks THE FUNS are local D.I.Y. heroes, having started their own cassette, vinyl and print label, Manic Static, that's known for its minimal-bordering-on-grisly aesthetic. Realistically, THE FUNS' music is without genre and having come up in basement/DIY/underground venues, the duo's dynamic, shape-shifting and multi-textural "rock" music is meant to be heard in a live (and loud) environment. They also refurbished a house four hours south of Chicago that acts an artistic refuge of sorts for those who need a break from city living. THE FUNS have ripped our stage a new one the two times they've played here and we expect wild, unpredictable and disaster-friendly set tonight.
