    Actress is the recording name of avant-garde UK producer Darren Cunningham. Since the release of his first 12” in 2004 on his own Werkdiscs label, Cunningham has steadily gained an internationally revered reputation for his thrilling take on electronic dance music. Drawing on a deep appreciation for early 80s funk and electro, techno, art rock, house and noise, in 2010 Splazsh was released via Damon Albarn’s Honest Jon's label, which The Wire honored as their album of the year. Cunningham released his third album R.I.P. to universal critical acclaim, including Best New Music on Pitchfork. He also produced remixes for John Cale and Kasabian, adding to a remix back catalogue that includes Radiohead, Joy Orbison and Laurel Halo. 2013 will see the release of the fourth Actress album, Ghettoville [Werkdiscs/Ninja Tune], the much-anticipated sequel-of-sorts to his debut Hazyville.

    A label as synonymous with Chicago as house music, Dance Mania exists to this day as a time capsule to the 90’s house sound. And one of the men at its helm is Ghetto House legend Parris Mitchell. A veteran of the best teachers Chicago has to offer – the Warehouse’s and Muzic Box’s dancefloors – and collaborator with fellow luminaries DJ Funk, Wax Master and other Dance Mania alum, Parris Mitchell has recently returned to the public consciousness thanks to renewed interest in his 1994 Dance Mania track ‘All Night Long.’ If eyes are on Chicago, looking for a resurgence of classic house, juke and ghetto house, then Dance Mania and Parris Mitchell might be in its focus.

    Innerspace Halflife abstracts traditional notions of Chicago House while retaining the source's raw and improvised edge, A collaborative project formed between Chicago's Hakim Murphy and Ike Release, Innerspace Halflife has developed its distinctive, cosmic and idiosyncratic sound through a series of well-received vinyl releases appearing on esteemed international record labels, MOS Deep and Skudge, as well as their own labels Machining Dreams and Episodes in limited and highly-sought after editions. In addition to their acclaimed productions and remixes, the duo's live performances are becoming increasingly in high demand headlining SF’s Icee Hot to bringing their warm analogue sound to Boiler Room, each set showcasing their brand of raw, jacking, cerebral dance music.
