ACTRESS is the alias of Darren Jordan Cunningham, a Wolverhampton U.K. producer and DJ who's released some of the most categorization-defying, least predictable electronic/dance music of since emerging in the early-2000s. Since debuting with the No Tricks 12" on his own Werk Discs label in 2004, ACTRESS juggled a diverse array of inspirations -- including early-'80s funk and electro, art rock, raw and classicist house, and noise -- while putting a fresh, challenging spin on them. Cunningham's reputation was solidified through Hazyville, released on Werk in 2008, and 2010's follow-up Splazsh for Honest Jon's, as well as remixes of tracks by a select list of fellow producers. In 2012, ACTRESS released his third album, R.I.P, his most abstract and singular work to that point. The producer's fourth album, 2014's Ghettoville, was released with support from Ninja Tune, who also released this year's mind-bogglingly good AZD. Described by the label as a "a chrome aspect journey into a parallel world," it's been hailed as another landmark record, with everyone from Resident Advisor to AV Club to Pitchfork heaping praise on the effort. As resistant to categorization as it is demanding of it, Pitchfork listed it as one of the best "Overlooked Albums of 2017" and described it as one of ACTRESS's "most inviting projects, and its generous attitude makes his disorienting songs all the more affecting." It's far from "overlooked" to us and you'll be a fool to overlook seeing AZD in a live setting.
ELYSIA CRAMPTON is an American experimental electronic musician. Her work is known for taking heavy detail in exploring Latinx culture, queer identity and its historic roots, subversion of macho cultural tropes, South American spirituality, naturalist themes, and frequent utilization of samples from varied sources.
RXM REALITY is an electronic artist operating out of Humboldt Park, Chicago. For the last four years he has crafted, with arcane adroitness, music that takes influence from disparate sources to create a mind-bending mélange. Mike Meegan, the person known as RXM REALITY, works primarily with samples and tossed out synths from the nineties. Saad Market was recorded to cassette tape during delirious days and is reflected in the disjunct and disquieted, but wide eyed sounds. The album's gritty aesthetic lends to a cohesive narrative for the expansive styles of songs
