Since forming in 2014, trio PALEHOUND have taken their plainspoken, technique-heavy indie rock from the basements of Boston to festivals around the world. Creative force Ellen Kempner is revered for her distinct, whispery alto, sterling musicianship and honest, wry lyrics. The sophomore album from the Boston three-piece, A Place I'll Always Go (Polyvinyl), is a frank look at love and loss, cushioned by indelible hooks and gently propulsive, fuzzed-out rock.

RIPS has recently released two songs Delay and Losing II from their upcoming LP (out June 16th) produced by Austin Brown of Parquet Courts fame. There is a clear 70's rock sound to the tracks that reminds me of CBGB heroes TELEVISION, though you can definitely hear Brown’s Parquet Court influence, which makes the tracks classic and current at the same time.

We're always happy to have CLEARANCE's nique take on throwback, indie-rock with a lo-fi vibe on the EB stage. The group released its debut LP Rapid Rewards in September 2015 via Tall Pat Records and Unsatisfied Records. Are You Aware -- another 7" released on Tall Pat -- followed in 2016. Taking equal cues from the Flying Nun school of arty guitar pop, classic British post-punk and otherwise VELVETS-indebted rock, the band mixes eras and styles with ease, resulting in a tightly focused but coolly off-the-cuff sound that appeals to rock nerds of all stripes and sizes.
