• Bohemian Nat'l Cemetery (Outside) Sat June 24, 2017 7:00 pm $20.00

Join us June 24th 2017 for Beyond The Gate's Summer Solstice concert in beautiful Bohemian National Cemetery, located on Chicago’s Northwest side. The concert will take place outside near the mausoleum. 2017 marks the fifth year of the Beyond The Gate series. We are thankful for the opportunity to present these concerts in a setting as rich in history as the Bohemian National Cemetery. We implore all attendees to treat these events and the surroundings with the respect they deserve.

This year, we are honored to welcome BODY/HEAD, the guitar duo of Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth / CKM / Free Kitten) and Bill Nace (Vampire Belt / X.O.4). Founded in 2011, the duo released their debut gull length on Matador Records in 2013. A powerful sonic offering that layered fractured guitar tones over foreboding vocals from Kim Gordon alongside heavy drones and loops. The New York Times’ Ben Ratliff named the album one of his favorites of the year. Their 2016 follow up, No Waves (Matador), is a selection of live recordings from their appearance at experimental music festival, Big Ears. We cannot wait to hear these dynamic tones ring out in the open air of this breathtaking setting.

Quartet DIAMOND TERRIFIER CIPHER makes their Chicago premier this evening, led by Sam Hillmer (Zs) and featuring the legendary Miho Hatori (Cibo Matto), Don Devore (Sick Feeling / The Icarus Line), & producer Michael Beharie. With each member originating from a slightly different constellation of underground sounds, the combination is legitimately transcendental.

Starting off the night is FACS, a new trio featuring members of DISAPPEARS (Brian Case / Noah Leger / Jonathan Van Herik). FACS excels at creating a unique meditative space through minimalism and repetition. Early arrival is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

PLEASE NOTE! Parking is limited in the area surrounding the cemetery. Public transport, cabs, UBER, LYFT, carpooling all highly recommended.

Please be mindful of helping to keep the area litter free. It is because of our shared mutual respect for the grounds, and the cemetery's neighbors, that we are welcomed back each year. We applaud you in advance for being respectful. A portion of the proceeds from the event directly benefit the Bohemian National Cemetery as well as the Albany Park Community Center.

Special thanks to our event sponsor Half Acre Beer Company!
