The Empty Bottle is pleased to welcome renowned guitarists STEVE GUNN and  LEE RANALDO (SONIC YOUTH).

STEVE GUNN is a New York-based guitarist and songwriter. With a career spanning nearly fifteen years, Steve has produced volumes of critically acclaimed solo, duo, and ensemble recordings. His albums with GHQ and longtime collaborating drummer John Truscinski represent milestones of contemporary guitar-driven, forward music. Mining the catalogs of Basho, Bull, Chapman, and Sharrock, among other titans of stringed-things and record-session royalty, Steve has steadily processed these inspirations into a singular, virtuosic stream. Close listening reveals the influence of Delta and Piedmont country blues, ecstatic free jazz, and psych, as well as Gnawa and Carnatic music, on the continually unfolding compositions.

LEE RANALDO is a Member of Sonic Youth, now in 30th year. He is also a visual artist, writer, producer etc. Recent live performances with partner Leah Singer, sight unseen, have been large scale, multi projection quadraphonic sound+light events, w Lee performing suspended guitar phenomena. A solo record of songs was completed this summer and slated for realease early in 2012, with band contributions from Steve Shelley, Nels Cline, John Medeski, Alan Licht and Bob Bert.

Opening the evening is MEG BAIRD. As a member of psych-folk outfit ESPERS, half of the family duo the BAIRD SISTERS, and as a solo artist, Philadelphia-based singer/songwriter MEG BAIRD has lent her lovely voice to a variety of folk-based projects. BAIRD'S true roots are deeply entwined in the Celtic/Anglo folk traditions as well as in American; she's well-versed in traditional ballads and songs, and her delicate, crystalline lilt fits perfectly in that milieu.
